One day, because of her entourage, clients, and even neighbors, she was encouraged to begin sharing the personal hair care products she had been making for her son and for herself. What started as something deeply personal eventually became something she chose to share with others by opening up about the ingredients she was using.

She never originally planned for it to become a hair care line company.

De La Curls was officially founded in 2015 by Catalina Marlys De La Mengue, a woman who was always searching for the most appropriate and effective natural ingredients for herself and her family. At the time, she simply wanted to understand how to properly treat and care for their hair because she felt she did not yet fully know how.

Her curls became like flowers to her.

As she looked at her hair in the mirror, she began asking:

What do you like? What do you hate? What irritates you? What kind of language should I speak to you? What do I need to do for you, my curls, to be beautiful, healthy, shiny, and free from breakage?

The moment she began “speaking” to her hair in this way, she also began to truly study it—day by day. Through observation, patience, and care, she started creating her own product ingredients and formulations.

Every ingredient used in her formulations was intentionally chosen to be 100% natural and chemical-free.

From the very beginning, De La Curls has always been about finding the best ingredients and solutions for natural hair learning how to:

Treat, Heal, Protect, Hydrate, Restore

Manage natural hair She discovered that once you truly understand how to treat, care for, and handle your “flowers” your afro curls you begin to see how beautifully they respond to love and proper care. And the truth is, you do not have to do too much. The real secret is simple: “Leave them alone.” Avoid unnecessary manipulation. Avoid harsh chemicals. Avoid constantly disturbing what is meant to flourish naturally. Because what happens when you constantly touch a flower all week long?

Little by little, it becomes weaker. It begins to break. Our flowers our curls are the exact same way.
